Training Contracts

WHEN TO APPLY

If you are a law student studying in Singapore, England, USA or Australia, you should apply for a training contract in the first semester of your penultimate year.

Please visit the "route to qualification" page for more information if you wish to be called to the Singapore Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor.

We encourage applications as early as possible within our application windows. Training contract offers will be made on a rolling basis and we are therefore unable to guarantee the availability of places as we progress with these interviews.

Our recruitment starts two (2) years to three (3) years in advance of your firm start date but, from time to time, we may have places available for you to start in an earlier intake than advertised. If you are eligible to start in an earlier intake, you should mention this in your application - this can be discussed during your training contract interview and at the point of offer.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

A good bachelors degree in Law is essential.  That said, more than half of our lawyers possess postgraduate qualifications.  We aim to employ the brightest minds regardless of what or where they have studied – you will find graduates from the world's best universities at Y S CHUNG.

Background, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, religious beliefs and age are all irrelevant to our application process.

We like people with:

  • a sharp intellect – our work is intellectually demanding and so,  we do look for candidates with at least three distinctions in your GCE "A" levels (or equivalent)  and a good Second Upper or First class in your degree classification

  • energy and spark, who can inspire and motivate those around them

  • commercial awareness

  • a range of interests outside of the law

  • the ability to show grit under pressure

  • common sense, integrity and drive

  • an interesting take on things

  • above all, a good sense of humour

To thrive here, you will also need enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to accept responsibility.

All applications are considered on their own merits and we encourage you to include details of any mitigating circumstances which may have adversely affected your academic results.

We employ the use of our Talent Recruitment System ("TRS") to help us identify candidates with high potential, by considering the applicants’ grades and achievements in the context of their social and educational background.
